Revive Ambassador takes the show on the road
Opera singers from Scottish opera walked 600 miles
throughout Scotland for Revive MS Support
A group of professional opera singers, working on Scottish Opera's production of 'Tosca' set off on a 600 mile walk throughout Scotland on the 13th of May 2012 from Glasgow’s Theatre Royal. The walk took them around Scotland, to all the theatres and opera houses where the Tosca production was taking place, as well as through Perth, Stirling and Dundee returning back to Glasgow at the Theatre Royal on June 15th.
The walk was the brainchild of singer Bronagh Byrne who has been inspired by fellow soprano, and Ambassador for Revive, Jenny Wilson-Best to raise funds for the Scottish charity.
"Jenny has been a keen walker all her life, so it seemed like a good idea to organise a walk which would raise funds for Revive MS Support, as well as promoting awareness of a disease that is particularly common among Scots women".
At each venue in the walk, current members of Scottish Opera provided afternoons filled with ‘‘Music and Merriment” in the streets as a welcome party for the walkers. The entertainment was free for the public to attend, with the opportunity to donate via text or buckets to the charity. The walkers arrived at each venue by 4pm so they had time to get ready to perform 'Tosca' that evening.
