30th Anniversary Appeal

07 Jan

****UPDATE****

Did you know that with your amazing support this year we managed to raise enough money to replace our old van!

Thank you so much to everyone that contributed time and money to make this happen during our #30thanniversary year!

Our new shiny one will be arriving some time in January, and we can't wait!

Happy New Year and all the best for 2015!

Throughout 2014 we will be celebrating 30 years of supporting people affected by Multiple Sclerosis. I hope you agree that this is quite an achievement!

Our charity has seen a great deal of growth, development and success over the past 30 years. From small beginnings in 1984 - one oxygen chamber with around 100 clients. Now we have 30 members of staff delivering specialised therapies to over 2000 people affected by Multiple Sclerosis in the West of Scotland.

Most of our clients attend our therapy centre based in Maryhill, but transport difficulties prevent some of our most ‘in need’ members from accessing the vital services that Revive provides.  This also includes the social interaction that our clients value as highly as the therapies themselves.

One of the ways we reach out to people beyond our Maryhill centre is through our outreach programme. We pack up our van with equipment and staff members to deliver therapies and exercise classes in areas that have shown a need for our services.

So far we have set up monthly outreach clinics in Carluke, Douglas, Hamilton and Paisley, and have a weekly outreach in Cathcart, in the Southside of Glasgow every Friday.  For more information about our outreaches, click here.

A client from our Cathcart outreach who wished to remain anonymous said:
“Having an appointment at Revive gives a purpose to my day, a reason to get out of bed and gives me something to look forward to. Having the outreach made a huge difference to me because I couldn’t have travelled to the Maryhill centre on my own and couldn’t afford a taxi to take me there.

An essential component in our outreach work is the provision of a specialised transport service for clients. This is invaluable for people affected by MS who are isolated in their own homes and have no practical means of getting to our Outreach Clinics.

A client from Crookston, said: “Due to the size of my powered wheelchair, I can no longer get into my own car. The van service is excellent and the drivers are all so friendly.

Many of those using our services become housebound for a variety of reasons.  The Revive transport service has made a huge difference to those that require it by giving them a greater sense of freedom and reducing the feeling of isolation.  It has also allowed more people with MS to access to our services and boost individuals’ self-confidence by providing a level of mobility, care and support over and above that available by public transport or taxis.

A client from Pollockshaws describes the outreach as a “lifeline”. For him, “Revive is a night out for me, even though it’s during the day. It’s where I get all the little things done that everyone else takes for granted.”

All those that attend our outreach clinics require services to maintain or improve their condition and prevent further deterioration. This group are dependent on transport to achieve physical support and social interaction to make their quality of life acceptable.

In our 30th year we need your help to raise £30,000 to replace our vehicle which is so integral to our outreach service.

Help us tackle the increasing demands on our transport services, and to expand our outreach programme to new areas to people who need our support.

Scotland has recently been deemed the ‘MS Capital of the World’ with over 10,000 people living with MS across the country, so there is still a long a journey ahead of us.

Help us give life back to many more people affected by MS by donating to our 30th Anniversary Appeal.
