Sadly, Iain Morrison, our CEO for 10 years is now retiring and handing over the leadership of Revive MS Support to a new CEO, Iain McWhirter.
Iain Morrison first joined the Revive team as a Trustee when he was the Minister for Cathcart Trinity Church, where we held our Friday Southside Outreach Clinic for 10 years. In 2011 our CEO, James Dornan sadly took ill. Iain, who was a dedicated Trustee and checked in weekly with James, was in the best position to take up the post of Interim CEO, providing support to the team during a difficult time.
The following year Iain was recruited as our permanent CEO and really thrived on developing the charity with the Pilotlight team who helped the organisation create a strong strategy which helped us to plan and develop new initiatives.
One of Iain’s biggest challenges as CEO was to relocate the organisation from our home in Maryhill which, after 30 years we had very much outgrown, and find somewhere new that would give us more space and afford the clients more dignity when they attended the Centre for appointments.
Finding our new home in Moorpark Court and making the space our own was a big project and Iain relished the challenge. Our new building has created a lasting legacy and has helped ensure the future sustainability of the charity. The campaign involved a lot of clients, volunteers and staff and despite the hard work involved, it was an exciting time.
Before we entered into the pandemic, the charity was growing and developing, and with a boss like Iain there has been lots of fun times. Seeing us through the past 2 years and ensuring our survival has been very difficult. It’s a fitting time to pass over the reins to a new leader to shape the charity as we move into a post-pandemic world with the great foundations that Iain has helped us build.
Iain says: “It’s been a privilege to have led such an amazing team of professional and dedicated staff at this wonderful charity for the past 10 years. Revive provides essential services for those with MS that no one else is doing, really filling a vital gap. Everything we do at Revive is about the people we serve. I have learned so much from our clients, their resilience and positivity, even when life is really tough.
I am going to miss you all, but I know that I pass on the baton to a good man in Iain McWhirter to start a new chapter in the journey of Revive MS Support. I will still continue to support the charity, so this won’t be the last you’ll see of me. Thank you to everyone that has supported Revive over the past 10 years, I hope you’ll continue that support.”
The staff team presented Iain with gifts at an informal event in the Café on Wednesday 30th March. The gifts included a round of golf and lunch at Dundonald Links and a hand-drawn portrait by client David Lockhart. There was also a special golf cake which was greatly enjoyed.
