This was such a great challenge last year, that we thought we'd offer it again!
I was inspired by a friend of mine who is doing this for a different charity, not only for exercise purposes, but also to help improve mental health. We all know the important role that exercise-induced endorphins can play in keeping us well and feeling happy. As we are now moving into winter with colder, darker nights, we need something to keep us positive at this difficult time.
I have become very demotivated to take up any exercise during the pandemic and I don't think I'm alone in that. I need a challenge and a new focus, and I would ask you to join me. I've called it the Walking Challenge, because I want each person to set the goal themselves. My friend is going to do 50 miles over the course of the month, maybe 10 miles is a challenge for you. My watch pedometer tells me I walk about 2 miles a day, so I'm going to set myself the challenge of walking 100 miles in October.
This is your challenge, so do it any way you like. You can set your target miles, amount of money that you want to raise and how you want to do it. Is it a wee bit every day? Or one big challenge day? I'll be using my treadmill (as it's a bit dusty) and hopefully, weather permitting, doing some outdoor walking.
