Trustee Profiles

Revive MS Support is privileged to have a talented and dedicated group of Trustees who are responsible for the smooth governance and strategic development of the charity.

They bring a broad range of expertise and experience to the table and we are grateful for the many, many hours they contribute as volunteers to this critical role.

Catherine McGee


Catherine is a Clinical Service Manager for Speech and Language Therapy for adult Acute services working within NHSGGC. She has a special interest in Neurology and worked as a Speech and Language Therapist at the Institute of Neurosciences in Glasgow for 20years. Catherine is also interested in Digital Health and worked within the e Health service for 2 years within NHSGGC. Catherine lives in the Southside of Glasgow. She has been married to John for the last 26years and has 2 grown up children Sophie and Stephen.

Michael Cunningham


Michael joined the Board of Revive MS Support in 2018, having previously served as a Trustee and Treasurer for the Voluntary Action Fund and the Braveheart Foundation. He also sat on the grants committee for Foundation Scotland and currently sits on the steering group for Viridor Credits. Michael is an Accountant who is Head of Finance at Sight Scotland, Scotland’s largest visual impairment Charity. Sight Scotland also has a sister Charity called Sight Scotland Veterans.

Michael mis-spent his youth working for Local Authorities before moving in to the charity sector in 2002. He has close family relatives who suffer from MS and who have taken advantage of the services provided by Revive MS Support. He lives in Lanarkshire with his wife and grown up children and enjoys cycling and cooking, but not at the same time.

Alan Russell

Alan became a service user of Revive in 2016 at Maryhill. He is a regular attendee at the centre and became a trustee in November, 2017. Alan has a commercial background in both the private and public sectors, most recently working in senior University roles covering fields of Hospitality, Catering, Accommodation, Events and Conferences.

He has a wide experience dealing with operational and financial issues often calling upon marketing, training, mentoring, development and leadership skills. Alan has many years of experience working in the Entertainment and Hospitality industries with the last fifteen years in the Student Sector. He is a strong believer in working with others always toward a positive outcome.

John Stuart

John is the Chief Nurse for the North Sector of NHS GG&C. He is the professional nursing lead for the range of clinical specialties provided within Glasgow Royal Infirmary, Lightburn and Stobhill Hospitals.

After qualifying as a registered general nurse from Glasgow Royal Infirmary in 1985 John qualified as a registered psychiatric nurse in 1987 and returned to a Staff Nurse and subsequently Charge Nurse post within Glasgow Royal Infirmary. Following additional studies and a spell in project management, John was appointed to the Clinical Risk Manager post within the North Glasgow Division of NHS Greater Glasgow in 2001. In 2003 he returned to nurse management and was appointed to the post of Divisional Nurse for Clinical Services within North Glasgow Division. Following the re-organisation of NHS GG&C, John was appointed as Head of Nursing for Regional Services Directorate and in 2015 John returned to the Glasgow Royal Infirmary as Chief Nurse.

Niall Sommerville

Niall joined the board of Revive MS Support in 2019 and brings wide ranging experience as a public affairs and communications professional working in the third sector and politics. He currently works for the Royal Society of Chemistry as Public Affairs Manager for Scotland, Wales and NI.

Prior to his current role Niall worked as Head of Communications and External Relations at the MS Society and served on the board of the Neurological Alliance of Scotland. In this role he helped support new MS treatments through the SMC process, supported the development of the National Action Plan for Neurological Care, and helped launch the first Scotland strategy of the MS Society. Niall lives near Glasgow wife his wife and son.

Marion Butchart

Marion joined the board of Revive MS earlier in 2021 following a 30 year career in the Pharmaceutical Industry. During her career her roles have been varied and wide ranging, including the last 10 years as the Government Affairs Manager for Scotland & Northern Ireland. Marion has extensive experience working and engaging with Ministers and MSP’s, key Government Policy stakeholders, Parliamentary Cross Party Groups, Patient Groups and hopes to bring that expertise to support MS Revive as a new Board Trustee. Having recently retired she is looking forward to what new experiences the future brings, including working with Revive MS Support team.
