Many people are unsure about counselling - they have questions about what it is, or how it can help. At Revive MS Support, we offer a confidential, person-centered counselling service for anyone affected by MS, which many people have found extremely helpful. Our counsellor is an MS specialist and has many years of experience providing support to all kinds of people whose lives are touched by MS, whether they are the person with MS, their family, carers or friends. He specialises in assisting people with MS to cope with symptoms of fatigue and runs a regular information and discussion group on this topic.
"I would have gone nuts if I hadn't spoken to someone.."
The sessions offer the chance to explore any difficulties you may be experiencing and can help you deal with the emotional turmoil which diagnosis and living with MS can bring. Our counsellor will not solve all your problems. He will however listen carefully and attentively, and will hopefully help you to see things more clearly, possibly from a different perspective.
Counselling will give you the chance to express yourself and to be heard. Speaking with the counsellor may result in you feeling less anxious. When we are less anxious or worried we can enjoy life more fully and be more supportive to those who rely on our help.
Counselling only happens at your request, and can be as frequent or infrequent as you like. Please do not hesitate to make an appointment or ask any therapist for more information.
"I find meeting with others and talking over problems most helpful.."
How can counselling help me?
Counselling is a process through which an individual can take time out from their daily routine to consider aspects of their life. The process usually involves three key stages:
- Clarifying the problems to be solved
This sounds easy, but many problems are inter-related and exploiting one may reveal others.
- Reaching a decision to change
When someone recognises that there is a problem, it doesn’t mean they will automatically want to make the changes needed to deal with it.
- Support during change
The Counsellor gives support in counselling for as long as it is beneficial.
Counselling is available at our Centre and all Outreach Clinics and visits to your home are also an option if travelling is an issue. Please call us on 0141 945 3344, send us an email or use our contact us form to get more information.
