Acupuncture
Acupuncture is performed by one of the centre’s Physiotherapists who is a member of the Acupuncture Association of Chartered Physiotherapists (AACP) and has attended Post Graduate training to enable her to practice this. It is a treatment that some Physiotherapists consider an effective complement to their established skills.
According to Traditional Chinese Medicine, Qi (energy) flows freely when in a healthy state and it stagnates when there is a problem. The insertion of acupuncture needles in specific places helps to free this stagnation.
Acupuncture is also shown to stimulate the production of endorphins, the body’s own pain relieving chemicals, which can help the body heal itself and relieve pain. It can be used for various symptoms of MS and numerous other conditions however, currently at Revive Scotland, priority lies with treating clients who have painful symptoms. Acupuncture will be administered at the discretion of the Physiotherapist.
Clients can access this service through any of Revive’s Physiotherapists who will refer on to Claire, our acupuncture practitioner, for treatment if appropriate.
