Tai chi

The Chinese have for thousands of years been aware of a system of internal energy, which travels through pathways, or “meridians” of the body.  They refer to this energy as chi.

Chi Kung is a series of individual movements, which are designed to promote the flow of chi energy.   Particular attention is paid to breathing, postural awareness, and visualisation of the movements.  The exercises are gentle and adaptable to people with different needs.  They can either be performed sitting or standing and the session is usually accompanied by relaxing music.

Benefits reported by people with MS include stress reduction, relaxation, increased energy, improved balance, better flexibility and a general feeling of calmness, confidence and control.

Tai chi classes take place at the MS Centre in Maryhill every second Friday morning at 11.00am.
