Pilates

The Pilates Method represents a unique approach to exercise that develops body awareness, changes the body’s postural and alignment habits and helps to increase flexibility and ease of movement.

The core fundamentals of the method are based upon a thorough understanding of the anatomy of the human body.  The Pilates Teacher uses this information to create a comprehensive exercise for each participant with the aim of restoring a greater sense of balance.  Pilates is now recommended as one of the safest forms of exercise today.

It is beneficial for general fitness and body awareness, injury prevention, remedial and rehabilitation work and the elderly and children alike.  It helps to increase and create a balance between strength and flexibility.  Pilates also helps to improve coordination, release stress and improve posture.

At the Centre, our Yoga class takes place weekly and lasts for approximately one hour.  Pilates   This class will improve your posture and body alignment by guiding you through slow controlled movements focusing on body awareness.  We start standing holding onto chairs and then move to the floor where you will be sitting, kneeling and lying on your front back and side.  Participants can work at their own pace.

Pilates classes take place at Maryhill MS Centre every Thursday at 1.30pm.
