Cheque handoverCaring cops from Strathclyde Police have handed over hundreds of pounds to charity, following a seven-a-side football tournament to raise money for Revive Scotland.

Picture shows Constable Peter Glancey presenting the cheque to Robin MacLellan, chief executive of Revive Scotland.  Also in the picture are (L-R) Allan McIntyre (MS Counsellor), Gordon McKay (Revive regular), Lyn Steven (Speech Therapist) and Kenny Osborne (Revive regular).

The tournament kicked off on 19 May 2006 with 11 teams made up of Strathclyde Police staff from Glasgow North and East Dunbartonshire areas, members of Culture and Leisure Services from Glasgow City Council and some of the recruiting department of the Second Scots Royal Regiment.

The event took place at the Firhill Complex on Hopehill Road, with the Glasgow City Council team taking the title.

But all teams were declared equal as they pitched in to raise just under eight hundred pounds for the charity.

Constable Peter Glancey of the Community Safety team played a key part in organising the event. He said:

“The whole event was a superb day and I’d like to thank everyone who took part and raised money for such a worthwhile cause.

“To generate nearly £800 was excellent and we’re all looking forward to seeing so many people benefitting from it.”

A cheque for £770 has now been handed over to Revive Scotland to help them continue the good work they do in the community.

Chief Executive of Revive Scotland, Robin MacLellan, is delighted that the event has done so much to help the charity and boost it’s funds. He added:

“We're honoured and delighted that Revive Scotland was chosen as the charity to benefit from the proceeds of this fantastic event.

“The funds raised will be used to provide essential therapies and support for hundreds of people affected by MS in the Glasgow area.

“Our sincere thanks and congratulations go to Constable Peter Glancey and his colleagues, as well as to the members of all the teams who took part, for raising such a tremendous sum.”
