Robert Brown MSP visits Revive MS Support
The latest high profile visitor to the Centre in Maryhill was Robert Brown MSP; list MSP for the Glasgow Region. Robert is a member of a number of Cross-Party Groups on health-related matters at Holyrood.
The visit provided an opportunity for Robert to see the centre and find out quite what services can be delivered on an industrial site in Maryhill. He was very interested in the wide range of services available and the large numbers of people and families supported by Revive. He said ‘It was great to see the work the organisation does.’
We have now had visits from a number of Glasgow City Councillors and MSPs which ensure that we are raising the profile both of Revive MS Support as a centre of excellence and the needs of people living with Multiple Sclerosis.
MSP Visit
CEO meets MSP
Revive was pleased to host a visit by local MSP Patricia Ferguson to the centre recently.
Patricia has been a supporter of the centre for many years, but took this opportunity of meeting the new CEO, James Dornan for the first time.
The following motion was submitted by Patricia Ferguson MSP and has been published on the Scottish Parliament web-site
“*S3M-4695 Patricia Ferguson: Revive MS Support - 25 Years of Service—That the Parliament congratulates the workers, volunteers and users of Revive MS Support as they celebrate 25 years of service to those affected by Multiple Sclerosis; notes that every year over 2,500 people benefit from the therapies, information and support provided by the charity; recognises the strong emphasis on partnership working which is at the heart of the organisation, and commends all those involved in both the centre in Maryhill and at the outreach clinics operated across Scotland.”
Revive MS Support backs Shine on Scotland Campaign
If you had one chance to help reduce Multiple Sclerosis in Scotland, what would you do?

This is the question which Ryan McLaughlin, aged 14, from Glasgow, has an answer to. Watch the video to find out more, and please share this video on your Bebo, Facebook, MySpace pages. Help us protect future generations of Scots from Multiple Sclerosis by signing our e-petition and joining our walk to the Scottish Parliament on Tuesday 16th June 2009 to hand the petition to our MSPs.
Ryan is aware of the effects of Multiple Sclerosis (MS), as it impacts on the lives of 10,500 people in Scotland and one of of those affected is his Mum. His experience of MS made him determined to find a way to help the thousands of people who are fighting this chronic progressive disease, an illness which has no cure, and to lessen the impact of MS on future generations. So what is his answer?
Campaign Goals
- Providing Vitamin D to all of Scotland’s children and pregnant mums
- Clarification on the recommended daily allowance
- To run a public awareness campaign inform the public about the benefits of Vitamin D in relation to MS
Could Vitamin D be the answer?
Recent studies appear to lend weight to the theory that a deficiency of Vitamin D intake could be partly to blame for Scotland's poor health record, and in particular, help explain the high prevalance of chronic conditions including MS.
